Microsoft Excel COUNTIF

In both SUMIF and COUNTIF, expressions may be used as the criteria Value. For example, to count the number of items in column C where the value is under 1,000, the formula would be; =COUNTIF(C2:C9,"<1000"). Notice that whilst the elements of an expression are numbers and comparative operators, the expression itself is a text value.

For more complex criteria conditions, use the DCOUNT function.
